Delallo Delights
After researching Delallo, a family-owned Italian food company, we identified an opportunity to foster connections among families worldwide through meals. We designed a new mobile service that delivers a family-centered gifting experience. This service includes personalized gift boxes, which are enhanced with features such as voice-recorded walkthroughs from your loved ones, using RFID technology for seamless mobile integration.

Grasping DeLallo's system revealed value creation opportunities.

To comprehend Delallo's current structure and the interactions between users, I created a stakeholder map. This map assisted us in identifying key players and potential areas where additional value could be generated.
Research

Understanding user needs and uncovering opportunities through user scenarios.
Empathize
As a team, we generated over 20 scenarios to further understand the practical needs and behaviors of various users as well as their pain points.
Formulating Ideas with Storyboarding
Ideation
From the array of scenarios, we selected four that resonated the most. Through storyboarding, we brought these scenarios to life, illustrating the potential value they could create for both Delallo and its customers.
Learning that recipe apps are overdone through a critique
Testing
Through a critique, we realized that recipe apps are commonplace. We employed the "rose, thorn, bud" method for this critique to gather feedback. The session underscored the significance of family traditions in Delallo's vision, leading us to ensure that the final concept would integrate this crucial element into every interaction.

So how might we
foster an increased sense of delight and family connection compared to other recipe apps?
Idea 1
Personalize gift boxes with video message and pre-recorded recipes
Idea 2
Incorporate digital experience with the physical experience through RFID tags

Personalize gift boxes with video message and pre-recorded recipes
With the focus of creating a family connection, we decided to explore the idea of adding personalisation by allowing the gift-giver to add their own video recorded message as well as audio-recorded recipe instructions when the gift-receiver opens the gift.

Idea 2
Incorporate digital experience with the physical experience through RFID tags
By integrating the new digital experience with the existing physical experience, we can create a delightful interaction.
Designing high-fidelity designs and micro interactions
Final Design
After running a critique on the two ideas, we decided to combine both of them to foster a sense of delight and create that family connection through food. I then led the design of the gift sender flow.
Gift sender flow

1. Select a gift box

Users can select custom DeLallo gift boxes directly from a mobile app.
2. Customize gift box

Edit the ingredients inside the gift box, list any preferences or allergies, write a personal message and add a personal video or picture!

4. Submit and pay

Input who and where you would like to send the gift box to and pay online!
3. Personalise the gift

Personalise the gift box even further by having your loved one hear your own voice giving the recipe instructions!

Gift Receiver flow

The integrated phone holder with NFC technology opens the door to an unparalleled experience for your loved ones
1. Watch video message

Once you place your phone on the box, a personalised video will start playing.

2. Guided tour of ingredients

One of DeLillo's missions is to share the story behind the food and where it came from. By highlighting where each of the ingredients in the box came from, it makes it more special for the receiver to prepare and consume.
3. Select a recipe & listen to voice-activated instructions

The recipient can select what they would like to make with the ingredients inside the box. They will then hear the sender's voice providing them with the recipe instructions
